Vision
I am running for election to the Dallas Independent School District Board of Trustees representing District 1 to bring strong, proven leadership to the school board on behalf of the communities served by District 1. The Dallas ISD Board of Trustees must demand strict accountability from its staff to transform our schools and bring about positive change.
As an interested parent of two daughters that attend Dallas ISD schools, lawyer, small business owner, and scientist, I have a vested interest in making sure that all Dallas ISD students have access to the best possible education. After all, the Dallas ISD students of today are the parents, lawyers and scientists of tomorrow. Our two daughters that have attended DeGolyer Elementary, Dealey Montessori, Marsh M.S., and attend Booker T Washington High School for the Visual and Performing Arts, also 5 exchange student daughters that attended W.T. White High School.
I want your vote and support for this election, May 9, 2015.
I believe in building our community schools and school choice. I will reengage with our community schools with periodic community meetings and forums, as I did in the past. I will host forums in both English and Spanish throughout District 1 and will work with the business community to help support our schools. I will work with our homeowners associations to bring partners and volunteers to our schools. I will continue to drive a policy agenda that will empower our classroom leaders and our campus leaders, with central office playing a supportive role for all our schools.
We must design the schools of the future, for the way students learn today, so they can excel in the workplace of the future and become productive citizens. I will champion learning environments that maximize choices, provide stimulating learning opportunities both in and outside the classroom environment, and expand opportunities for project-based learning, all of which match the current and future workforce needs.
Employee engagement will also be a top focus if elected. During the last 3 years, Dallas ISD has undergone dramatic and tough changes. Without a doubt, employee engagement must be a critical part of the next three years of progress. I will once again champion an independent ombudsman program, which will allow all employees to have a voice before administration. We must highlight, empower, champion, and reward the many contributions of all our employees. We must also work hard to provide the best professional development available for all our staff, to make sure we have a great teacher leading every classroom and a great principal leading every school. Dallas ISD must become one of the best places to work in Dallas. We must learn to listen to staff, and reward great teaching.
As a former Board member I served the District 1 community with integrity, honor and worked hard for all our schools. I will continue to collaborate with all members of our community and build public understanding, support and participation between teachers, principals, counselors, administrators and other trustees. I have and will continue to listen to all views and will continue to engage in dialog with all sides of the issues. Through careful planning, research and consensus building we will move the Dallas ISD toward excellence.
We are a diverse community, but one student is no more important than another. Our schools are here to serve the educational needs of all our children. The quality of education children receive today reflects their opportunities tomorrow. Every child deserves the best education we can give them. Every student has strengths the schools should develop, and weaknesses the schools should overcome. A key issue for the school board trustees is to create a long-term vision, mapping a course that provides the necessary opportunities children
